Schuyler K Esprit, PhD
Schuyler Esprit is the Founder and Director of Create Caribbean Research Institute, the first digital humanities center in the Caribbean. Her research areas of interest include Caribbean literary and cultural studies, environmental and ecological humanities, and digital humanities. Dr. Esprit’s current research focuses on the impact of reading in communities in real and virtual spaces.
As Director of Create Caribbean, she is the curator of public digital research projects focused on preserving Caribbean heritage and culture, and designed the first DH course of its kind to be offered in a Caribbean college – Digital Humanities Research.
Her book Imprinted: A Social History of Caribbean Reading is forthcoming with Papillote Press based in London, UK and Dominica.

Dr Schuyler Esprit is Founding Director of Create Caribbean, a non-profit educational institute committed to bridging academic excellence, technological empowerment and civic engagement to help young people build a better Caribbean.
Mission Statement
Create Caribbean Inc. aims to develop the creative capacity of youth in Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean through a focus on education and research in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Our goal is to foster a culture of intellectual inquiry, encourage the use of digital technology in academic research, and increase outreach and community participation in the preservation and dissemination of Caribbean history, heritage and other research areas of significance.
